Martin Whitly had made a deal with the devil, but he was completely content with that. He had to fake his death with the help of a wealthy professional and relocate to a whole new town. It was still a luxurious lifestyle he was brought into but fairly confined. He would still be used for his skills as a surgeon and a killer, but be paid and housed for it.
He had to wait a few weeks after pretending to be dead - he was sure by then that his ex wife had flushed his ashes down a toilet by this point - before seeking Joan out. He was escorted by the people who had managed to get him out of Claremont and located the place that she had shared with this Sherlock fellow.
He could have spent hours looking through the things collected there, but found his way to her room and stayed there. It wouldn’t do him much good to be spotted by her roommate. His appearance was cleaned up despite his age still showing on his face, but his hair was in better shape. He was still unmistakably him even if he wore a disguise the majority of the time he was in public.

"Only you make me sound like that," she said, her eyes sparkling. She reached over to take his hand, interlacing her fingers with his.

“Shall I stay the night?” He would do what she preferred for at least this first encounter.

"We'll need to get our own place, sooner rather than later." She chuckled a little, brushing her fingertips along his chest. "A love nest."
At his question, she nodded. "Please. I've been wanting to sleep with you for a long time." She remembered what she thought of while he was inside of her, and she tapped his chest lightly. "But I need to tell you about Moriarty before we fall asleep. It's important." As much as she would love just drifting off in that warm, loving safety.

Date: 2020-03-25 04:08 am (UTC)“Then I’ll get us a ‘love nest’ this week.” He had money and unique connections; he could make it happen. “Then I’ll come get you.” That way no address was ever in writing to cover their tracks. Just in case of course.
“I as well,” he kissed the top of her head affectionately as they lay in the soft sheets. “I had thought many nights about having you in my arms when I woke.” And it would finally happen.
“Yes, yes- tell me of this Moriarty.”

Date: 2020-03-25 04:51 am (UTC)She smiled as he kissed her head. "Me too," she agreed. It had been a sign of how her fondness for Martin went beyond her sexual desire for him. Fantasizing about sex was one thing. Once you were fantasizing about waking up together, you knew there was more there than just lust.
He told her to tell him about Moriarty, and she took a breath. "Well, to start, you'd probably like her. She's a lot like you. She's smart, cultured...and a psychopath. She runs an international crime organization. Like a spider in the middle of a web. She has eyes everywhere. There are very few things she doesn't know, especially about Sherlock and me. She's in love with Sherlock. And...even after all this time, I think he's still in love with her."
She frowned faintly. "Actually...I wonder if she might be behind your escape somehow. It's the sort of thing she'd do, help a serial killer fake his death so he's working for her."

Date: 2020-03-26 03:54 am (UTC)Martin kept his poker face to appear as if he knew no more than he let on and not adding any more commentary in that arena. “It would be convenient considering my affection for you,” he ponder out loud, looking down at her now with a puzzled expression. “But what does she have against you?”
no subject
Date: 2020-03-26 04:33 am (UTC)She took a breath. The situations were clearly different. For one thing, Martin had never pretended to be someone else, and she had been the one to come to him, without any prompting. Still...
"It nearly killed Sherlock. Sent him into a drug-filled nosedive. He came to New York and his father got him into rehab. And when he got out, his father hired me to be his sober companion."
She knew he wouldn't tell her if he was actually working for Moriarty, for her sake as well as his. But it still worried her. She believed that he would be honest with her, that he wouldn't be using her or pretending to care for her in order to spy for Moriarty. But...what if she was wrong?
"I caught her," she answered. "She came to New York, pretending again to be Irene so she could throw Sherlock off the trail of her machinations. He figured it out, but couldn't catch her. But I realized that she loved him, and that she would go to him if he was in trouble. And she did. I solved her. And she's been obsessed with me ever since."

Date: 2020-03-27 04:11 am (UTC)“Well,” he concluded after getting a much better picture of Joan’s ties with Sherlock and their history. “You are quite easy to become obsessed with.” He held her close, smiling as he made some light of the dark story.
He couldn’t share who he worked for or if this all sounded too familiar. None the less Martin Whitly was never one to be doped. He was always in control of his situations and had something else in his back pocket because it was truly always best to have a plan.
“Is this to say she’s still looking for you?”

Date: 2020-03-27 05:09 am (UTC)Although, to be fair, if Moriarty was involved, she wouldn't let Martin hurt Joan.
"She knows where I am," she answered. "Remember Andrew, my boyfriend who died by drinking a poisoned coffee meant for me? After that happened, the woman who had sent the assassin was found dead in her prison cell, and I got a letter from Moriarty saying she wanted me alive to play a role in this great game between her and Sherlock. There was no way for her to know what happened, who was responsible, or even where I was living at the time, unless she has eyes on me. Just like she has eyes on Sherlock."
She looked up at him.
"I guarantee she knows that I visited you. And that she knows what went on in those visits. I'm sure that if you had hurt or killed me, you'd have turned up dead, too."

Date: 2020-03-28 04:55 am (UTC)“So she enjoys making this all a game? The plot thickens!” He actually seemed excited by this.
“Well there are easy records of that.” Their visits so he had no doubt someone was keeping an eye on that much. “And why would I have reason to hurt or kill you?” He asked playfully. “I’ve played a long game, why surrender the winnings so abruptly?”
“Are you afraid of her?” He inquired, since he wasn’t for many reasons, but his own inklings didn’t give him a read on Joan. She was pressed against him tightly but that didn’t give him enough data to draw a conclusion. This also coming from a man who had lived with eyes on him 24;7 for 20 years.

Date: 2020-03-28 05:12 am (UTC)The question of whether she was afraid of Moriarty got a shake of her head. "Not afraid. More angry at her for the things she's put Sherlock through. And worried about what she might do to us." She touched his cheek. "If she doesn't know you're alive already, she will find out eventually. And she won't be above blackmailing one or both of us with the information."

Date: 2020-03-28 06:39 pm (UTC)“I’m not worried about her.” He smiled softly to Joan, his hand finding hers. “Maybe she’s crazy about Sherlock but we’re not her targets.” Unless Joan rocked it the boat of things. “We’re going to be fine.” He excuted confidence that could either show that he knew something or that he just was that sure of himself.

Date: 2020-03-28 11:31 pm (UTC)She definitely didn't share his certainty. She knew how Moriarty operated, knew how very interesting she would find the fact that Joan was involved with a serial killer. But she wasn't going to stop seeing him, and he wasn't going to stop seeing her. She'd just have to be vigilant.
She threaded her fingers with his and settled closer.

Date: 2020-03-29 04:26 am (UTC)“Maybe one day we can go somewhere together. Just, you know, anywhere. A vacation, a weekend getaway to somewhere not New York City.” He mused. “I can get some prosthetics for my face or something since I’ve got plenty of time to practice.
“Where would you like to go if we could get out of town, darling?”
no subject
Date: 2020-03-29 04:42 am (UTC)"Wow. I don't know. Maybe somewhere in the Caribbean? I've never been, but I've always wanted to. How about you? Where would you like to go?"
no subject
Date: 2020-03-29 04:49 am (UTC)“Maybe Paris.” He pondered. “Although now you’ve got me thinking of somewhere warm and secluded. Our own little island to do with as we pleased.” He looked to her for a reaction. “We could do what those kids are calling ‘glamping’. Have you heard of it? Fancy camping with indoor plumbing.” Because he really didn’t want to rough it at his age now. Not when he had the means to do otherwise. “I could cook for you, we’d have wine. Just enjoy ourselves.”

Date: 2020-03-29 05:01 am (UTC)"There are private islands for rent in the Caribbean. Which I'm sure you know." Of course, he could probably afford to buy one.

Date: 2020-03-30 03:06 am (UTC)“We’ll do it one day,” he says with his normal confidence. Rarely did much throw Martin off of his guard seeing that he demanded control from his environment.
“But until then I’ll just have to find us a place of our own.” He gave her a squeeze. “And avoid your roommate.”

Date: 2020-03-30 03:29 am (UTC)That thought touched off others related to the difficulties of being in a relationship with a presumed dead serial killer. She'd never be able to introduce him to her parents, or her friends, or bring him with her to parties or weddings. She wanted to share her life with him, but even now, with him on the outside, there were significant limits to that. And not just on her side. He doubtless wouldn't be able to tell her anything about his work. Not that she wanted him to.
"Oh...give me a minute." She extricated herself from his arms and went to the door, deadbolting it before returning to his side.
"Just to make sure Sherlock doesn't walk in on us."

Date: 2020-03-30 04:05 am (UTC)Martin laughed, “If he did would he be the type to turn around immediately or introduce himself to the naked man in your bed?” The respond would say a lot about who he was.
no subject
Date: 2020-03-30 04:19 am (UTC)"Oh, you laugh!" she said, amused. "But if Sherlock came in, he would introduce himself, then ask you how many orgasms you'd given me tonight, possibly going on to tell you I need more and you'd better up your game. If he didn't recognize you as the Surgeon first."
no subject
Date: 2020-03-31 03:51 am (UTC)“And what would happen if he did recognize me?” He posed to her, smirking as if having figured out a puzzle. “Are they going to lock me away again? I already served my ‘life sentence’, didn’t I?” That life had ended technically so he didn’t see how he would have to serve any more time.

Date: 2020-03-31 04:17 am (UTC)His second question gave her pause, though. He was playing it for laughs, but beneath that was a deadly serious issue. What would happen?
"Martin? I need you to promise me something."

Date: 2020-03-31 02:57 pm (UTC)"Anything, darling." His tone was still light even though he did pick up on her mood shift.

Date: 2020-03-31 03:34 pm (UTC)Sherlock was more than her partner and her roommate. He was her best friend, and she loved him. She would be devastated and feel incredibly guilty if something happened to him as a result of this relationship.
